Finance department: Henegar new deputy director; Zach Marlow promoted to budget manager | News

Karen Henegar has been promoted to Campbell County deputy finance director, while County Commissioner Zachary Marlow has been promoted to budget manager and Trevor Hobbs has been hired as the new purchasing manager.

“Just some updates for the finance department, one of which is the finance director is supposed to name an employee of the finance department as deputy, and then that has to be approved by the FMS Committee,” Campbell County Finance Director Eric Pearson said. “So my recommendation is that Karen Henegar being the deputy. She’s, obviously, the longest-serving person there. She’s had a lot of experience in the department so just the obvious choice. And really, under Act ‘81, all that means is in my absence, she would be able to sign purchase orders, sign contracts, sign warrants, paychecks, so that the business of the department and the county wouldn’t get disrupted in my absence.”

The FMS Committee approved making Henegar the deputy finance director at the committee’s Oct. 29 meeting.

Just as Pearson replaced former county finance director Jeff Marlow, who moved on to a new temporary county position, Zach Marlow replaces the recently retired Richard Terry, and Hobbs replaces the recently retired Lisa Bowlin.

“With me today is Trevor Hobbs,” Pearson said. “He’s the new purchasing manager, so I just wanted to make sure he got introduced to all of you. We’ve been meeting with various department heads, too, to make sure Trevor knows everybody and is familiar with them and their operations and just to start building those relationships, but Trevor’s doing a great job so far, a lot of stuff to get up to speed on, but he’ll probably be attending finance meetings going forward. As you probably know, Zach Marlow got promoted to Richard’s position. We have filled Zach’s position, as well. Rache Bolton, she’ll be starting Nov. 10, and then unfortunately, if any of you knew Crystal, who was the person up front, of course, accounts payable, does other stuff, her last day was the 24th, unexpectedly. We’re in the process of recruiting for that, doing interviews. We hope to fill that.”

Also soon to be retiring is Gene Henning, from IT, Pearson said.

Henning will retire at the end of the year, Pearson said.

“Hopefully, after all that, there won’t be any vacancies anytime soon in the finance department to have to deal with because that is a lot of work to do, and it’s just a lot easier to get people together,” Pearson said. “And just, for your purposes, obviously, between Richard, Lisa and Jeff — and I’m glad Jeff’s still going to be on as a county employee, so there’ll be a resource for me — but that’s 97 years of experience in the county finance department. At the time, before anybody else was hired, the other 10 staff there, cumulatively, excluding the one part-time person, was 76 years. So between Jeff, Richard and Lisa, they had a lot of historical knowledge and information. There probably wasn’t anything in county government that they didn’t deal with or know about. So, on the other hand, it will take us a little bit of time to really get up to speed on some things. So, hopefully, you guys will have a little bit of patience with us.”
