City taps new revenue director, deputy finance director

Richmond officials on Thursday announced the hiring of two finance professionals.

Jamie Atkinson is the new director of revenue. She has 15 years of financial experience at federal, state and local agencies, including an eight-year role as budget director for Austin, Texas. She will oversee revenue collection, business and personal property tax assessments and the administration of tax relief programs and will assist with the annual financial audit.

Thomasena Gadson, who started as deputy finance director, brings over 21 years of private and public sector experience at federal and local levels. She previously worked for the U.S. Treasury Department and the IRS.

As Finance Director Sheila White’s deputy, Gadson will be responsible for customer management, assessments, and billing and technology improvements.

“We are excited to welcome both Jamie and Thomasena to Richmond,” said Chief Administrative Officer Lincoln Saunders in a statement. “Their financial expertise will be a benefit to both residents and the administration as we move forward to strengthen the Department of Finance.”
