The Town of Strasburg’s new finance director comes with decades of experience and ties to the community.
Strasburg announced the hiring of Angie Stine on Thursday. She will begin the job on Aug. 26, but she’s already a familiar face in Shenandoah County government.
Stine has more than 23 years of local government experience, including two and a half years in a leadership role as the Shenandoah County Public Schools director of finance and four years as the Shenandoah County finance director, according to the July 25 press release.
“Angie’s experience, strong organizational skills and leadership will be a strong asset to the Town of Strasburg,” Town Manager Waverly Coggsdale said.
During her tenure with Shenandoah County Public Schools and Shenandoah County, Stine assisted in the development of the annual operating budget, supervised the finance departments, oversaw the annual external audit process, and contributed to the overall financial workings of the organizations, according to the press release.
Stine said she looks forward to using those same skills to help the Town of Strasburg grow and advance. It is the many projects the Town is pursuing that attracted her to the role.
“I think what most excites me is all the unique projects occurring in the Town: the Water Line Extension, sewer projects, Riverwalk expansion, upgrades at the park, and the police department project, to name a few. I feel my institutional knowledge can help assist in bringing these projects together, and I look forward to working with the entire team and making them a reality,” Stine told the Northern Virginia Daily. “Additionally, I’m excited to work with the assistant town manager (Mellanie Shipe) in updating the procurement process as well as streamlining other operational processes. The whole transition excites me.”
Stine is a graduate of Shenandoah University with a Bachelor of Science in business administration, cum laude. She also completed the Shenandoah County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Academy. Stine is a member of several professional organizations, including the Government Finance Officers Association, the Virginia Government Finance Officers Association, and the Virginia Association of Government Purchasing, according to the release.
As Strasburg’s finance director, Stine will lead the Town’s financial department and be tasked with formulating budgeting, investment, accounting, and financial reporting strategies.
Stine is a resident of Edinburg but has family ties to Strasburg. She said it’s a community she is familiar with and deeply fond of.
“I think it’s simply the closeness of the community,” Stine said. “After all, once a Ram, always a Ram! Although I am not a Ram, one of my brothers is. I can just see the generational growth in the community, and it will be an honor to be part of that community.”
