Flossmoor announces Novoa as new finance director

The Village of Flossmoor has promoted its Assistant Finance Director Ann Novoa to the position of finance director, effective Friday, Dec. 1.

Ann Novoa

She will oversee all aspects of financial administration within the village, including accounting, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, investments and other financial transactions. She will also advise the village manager and board of trustees on all budgetary matters.

“Ann’s relevant experience, proven track record, energy and enthusiasm make her a great fit for the role,” Village Manager Bridget Wachtel said.

Novoa joined the Village of Flossmoor in June 2021 after serving two years as the comptroller/finance director at the Village of Crestwood. Besides her government experience, she has also worked as an accountant for CNA Insurance in Chicago and at Baker Tilly Virchow Kraus LLC in Oak Brook.

She is certified as a senior professional by the Society for Human Resource Management and earned a certificate of achievement for the SHRM Learning System from Northern Illinois University.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Western Michigan University’s Haworth College of Business and a M.S. in Accountancy from Benedictine University.

While completing her degrees, she served the Village of Tinley Park as a finance/accounting assistant.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my last 2.5 years in Flossmoor and am ready for new challenges and for this opportunity for growth,” says Novoa. “The Village has welcomed me with open arms, and I will continue to serve with integrity and enthusiasm. I would like to thank my predecessor for being a great mentor and friend, and I wish him well on his future endeavors.”

Novoa replaces retiring Finance Director Scott Bordui, who has served in the Village since 1996 and helped the village earn consecutive Government Finance Officers Association Awards for Excellence in Government Finance for more than two decades. The Village has received this award annually since 1978.

“Scott served the village well for 27 years, making significant contributions to the financial stability of the community and contributing to the project planning that has been vital to the accomplishments of many infrastructure improvements over the years,” Wachtel said. “Promoting Ann, his assistant director, to finance director will only further our excellence as a village.”

Bordui concurred: “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Ann. She is a terrific talent, a wonderful person and a great choice to be the village’s next finance director.”
