Join us as a Senior Finance Manager and play a pivotal role in the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Coordinating Centre. Your contribution will be instrumental in ensuring the continued success of NIHR’s vital work

Who are we?

The NIHR funds, enables and delivers world-leading health and social care research that improves people’s health and wellbeing and promotes economic growth. Our research helps turn discoveries into new or improved treatments, diagnostics, medical technologies and services. This role is based in our Southampton centre which is hosted by the School of Healthcare, Enterprise and Innovation (HEI). 

What will you do?

This role will collaborate closely with other senior finance managers to ensure the efficient delivery of financial services. Your leadership will drive the finance team’s management account services, primarily for NIHR CC and across HEI. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Managing financial contracts across HEI, aligning with KPIs and contract compliance.
  • Ensuring financial accounts adhere to national accounting conventions and established standards.
  • Overseeing the production of management accounts.
  • Leading the annual budget-setting process
  • Give leadership to and line manage your section of the finance team 

Who are we looking for?

We’re seeking a CCAB Qualified accountant with significant post-qualification experience. As a subject matter expert, you’ll excel in engaging stakeholders at all levels and effectively conveying financial information. Key skills for success in this role include: 

  • Experience in applying financial knowledge within an organizational context, such as business and workforce planning.
  • Knowledge of the UK Health Research funding environment  or the higher education system
  • Strong relationship building and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of accounting systems
