Bradford will be UK City of Culture in 2025 – the district is in the national spotlight and the joined-up work of the local authority is critical to its success and the reputation of the city / district. As winner of the prestigious UK City of Culture 2025 title this is set to be a game-changer for Bradford, putting the district firmly on the national and international stage. A City of Culture designation brings considerable long-term benefits including increased employment, new investment, enhanced skills, renewed pride, greater cultural capacity and more opportunities to participate in arts and cultural activities.
Bradford Metropolitan District Council is building capacity within its internal teams and is now seeking a Finance Manager to support the work of its established Culture, Policy & Events Team. They will play a critical supporting role ensuring we deliver an outstanding Bradford UK City of Culture in 2025 and help lay the foundation for its Legacy.
Key responsibilities of this post are:
- The post holder will work within the Place Finance Team (Corporate/ Service) but work closely with and provide support to the Culture, Policy and Events team ensuring the robust and smooth delivery of our district wide culture programme as we head towards our UK City of Culture designation in 2025. Play a key role in the processing, monitoring and reporting of our finances.
- The post holder will ensure that correct accounting procedures and policies are followed by Culture, Policy and Events team, and manage the service area finances providing financial support to the team, monitoring costs and income, managing budgets, payments, and setting up of suppliers and leading on the year end closedown alongside the Head of Creative Programmes.
- To support the team with the day-to-day financial management of grants, festivals and events programmes ensuring the smooth running of the financial procedures and policies for the Culture, Policy and Events team.
- Lead on the financial management of external funding within Corporate Services.
To be ready for this opportunity you need to possess:
- Relevant degree or NVQ level 4 or equivalent of a financial background, desirable Association of Accounting Technician or similar but no formal qualification needed if candidate can demonstrate substantial proven experience (in addition to the minimum requirement above).
- At least three years’ experience working for a local authority council or large arts or leisure organisation in a financial environment.
- Experience of financial management, monitoring and analysis using computerised financial systems and database
