POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Finance and Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) is responsible for the Finance Department and related legislated and operational duties on behalf of Batchewana First Nation. As Department Head, this role combines strategic and operational planning, establishes accounting and financial control functions, guides the profitable long-term growth and financial sustainability of BFN and ensures integration of processes and systems throughout diverse operating areas. The incumbent supervises department staff, and directs finance related protocols throughout the organization. As part of the Senior Management Team, the CFO will assist the Chief Executive Officer, Executive Directors and Department Heads to ensure that service delivery, decision-making and operations are carried out in a cost efficient, strategic and service oriented manner, while meeting all statutory obligations. The role may also oversee related areas such as Procurement
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Honors Degree in Commerce, Business, Accounting or related field along with a Financial designation such as CPA, CMA, CA
• 8 to 10 years in a senior management capacity; preferably with a First Nation or Indigenous organization

• Exceptional financial management and accounting skills
• Excellent understanding of business practices and principles
• Collaborative leader, relationship builder and team player
• Strong ability to simplify complex information; outstanding communicator both written and verbal
• Excellent judgment, decision making and analytical ability
• Able to develop and manage complex agreements, contracts and corresponding relationships (internal and external)
• Strong working knowledge of program funding (sources and requirements), related processes (such as proposal writing and submission) and reporting (internal and external)
• Strong negotiation skills
• Excellent contract management and vendor relationship building / management skills
• Exceptional knowledge of GAAP principles
• Strong critical thinking, problem solving and computer skills
• Able to manage multiple tasks, projects and assignments
• Able to manage confidential and sensitive information
• Familiar with First Nation approaches, traditions and history

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• Favorable CPIC and Vulnerable Sector Check
• Must be bondable
• Travel will be required
• Serves on required boards, committees and associations
